About Canterbury and Whitstable Constituency
The Liberal Democrats have become the clear challengers to the Conservatives for the Canterbury and Whitstable Parliamentary Constituency. In 2005, the Liberal Democrats moved into a close third place, increasing their vote by over 3% while the Labour vote fell by over 8%. In the Canterbury City Council elections in 2007, Labour were decimated across the area and were left with just 2 councillors on Canterbury City Council. The Liberal Democrats won 19 seats and the Conservatives 29. Following a review by the Boundary Commission of England of all Parliamentary Constituencies, as of the next General Election, the Canterbury and Whitstable Parliamentary seat will include the electoral wards of Barham Downs, Barton, Blean Forest, Chartham and Stone Street, Chestfield and Swalecliffe, Gorrell, Harbledown, Harbour, Little Stour, North Nailbourne, Northgate, St Stephens, Seasalter, Sturry North, Sturry South, Tankerton, Westgate, and Wincheap.
